1. As 2013 began, CPI completed its work with a metro-west town and our analyses of their respective financial services. Soon thereafter the local school board reviewed the work as presented by the superintendent.
2. CPI continued its long-term (eleven years) with its advisory relationship with insurance experts who specialize in life, disability and health insurance.
3. & 4. During the early winter we completed our work with a NH school district as it progressed to restructures its middle and high school regular and special education math and literacy curricula. The formal reports were submitted and reviewed by the school administrative staff.
5. A greater Boston high per capita school district needed an immediate interim finance director to close out the fiscal 2013 school year. CPI was able to locate an experienced and expert former school business administrator who worked from early in the year up until June and the appointment of a full-time school business administrator.
6. During the spring, CPI assisted a small Berkshire school district and town in developing, reviewing and negotiating a payroll processing and human service contract. Although this project was short in different (town vs school) perspectives.
7. & 8. With a large north shore collaborative Frank Colvario was initially able to provide one day per week of financial expertise; eventually this assignment increased to more involvement as the district encumbered, for the first time, its salaries for the entire fiscal year. Soon thereafter a more detailed budget than ever previously presented to the senior administrators and board members was drafted, recommended and approved.duration and actual involvement, the work was complex and needed to address significantly.
9. With this same organization, CPI was asked to assist in the transition to a new CEO and CFO. This transition assignment occurred during the summer of 2013.
10. During the summer weeks, CPI was assigned to review a loss of income claim with a privately owned large southern Massachusetts company. This assignment was completed southern with visits and meetings with the claimant as well as the development and submission of a formal report.
11. CPI was asked to return to a former Vermont vocational school client to assist the new business administrator in developing priorities and work activities. Soon thereafter CPI assisted in developing new job descriptions.
12. For a greater Boston vocational school, CPI was enlisted to assist the superintendent and legal counsel in various financial concerns. This assistance focused on the school’s transition from a full-time business administrator.
13. & 14. In a large Berkshire city, CPI assisted in two reviews, an internal and external data gathering and analysis of revolving accounts and staffing.
15. After Thanksgiving and for much of the end of the year, focus was provided to another Greater Boston small city where financial assistance was needed. This assistance was needed as the appointed senior financial manger had left the district.
In the fall of 2013, with the significant help of Glen Koocher (MASC), CPI was again able to plan, arrange and conduct the third session in three years to provide help to aspiring superintendents. Several different senior administrators, all from Massachusetts, attended this late October workshop.
