During 2011 we initiated and, in most cases, completed nine assignments for five clients. The following are brief descriptions of our work during this past calendar year:
1. CPI continued its long-term advisory relationship with insurance experts who specialize in life, disability and health insurance. Our work in southern New Hampshire generated additional work in other NH districts.
2, 3 and 4. For another of our insurance clients, we participated in three “loss of income” assignments: two small and privately owned/operated and very different restaurants as well as a large chain specializing in casual dining.
5. In an eastern MA town we provided the school superintendent consulting services that focused on financial management. With help from CPI, the retiring superintendent was able to ensure that surpluses remained in the school’s fiscal 2011 budget when he left in the summer.
6. For a large (i.e., 80,000 student and 15 member) Massachusetts collaborative, we provided the Board and management team a verbal analysis of the collaborative’s management and administrative status.
7. We were engaged by this same collaborative to assist in the transition for a new executive director and to strengthen the collaborative’s financial management policies and procedures. Focus on payroll and accounts payable was needed, and significant change occurred with authorization of financial documents. Two years of audits were needed as well as the development of budgets.
8. and 9. During the summer we started and continued to work with a NH school district as it restructures its middle and high school regular and special education math and literacy curricula. The formal reports have been completed, and a review by the school committee and community will occur in next 30 to 45 days.
